Jose Farro

Couples and Family Counsellor

B.A.

Jose is a couples & family counsellor at VMA Psych who brings a warm, grounded, and integrative approach rooted in his experience with Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). He focuses on helping individuals, couples, and families develop emotional resilience, enhance communication, and foster more connected and intentional relationships.

Whether supporting adults through internal struggles, helping couples improve communication, or guiding families through difficult transitions — Jose’s goal is to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where people feel understood, empowered, and supported in meaningful, lasting growth.

Professional Focus and Approach

Jose is a clinical counsellor with over a decade of field experience, offering a direct and structured approach to mental health development. Proficient in diverse modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), he tailors his sessions to each client's unique needs—whether they are individuals seeking personal growth, couples working through conflicts, or families striving for better communication. His practice emphasizes emotional regulation, psychological flexibility, and Positive Discipline techniques to promote long-term well-being. As a devoted husband and father of two, Jose brings a real-world perspective to his work, offering valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of maintaining healthy relationships.

Specializations

With a strong academic foundation in philosophical studies and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Jose has spent the past decade refining his expertise across various branches of psychology. He provides specialized support for individuals with issues such as anxiety, depression, and life transitions, as well as couples and family counselling to address conflict resolution, parenting challenges, and communication breakdowns. Alongside his counselling practice, Jose has extensive experience leading parenting classes and workshops for parents and couples, particularly in the area of Positive Discipline. In these programs, he’s supported caregivers in understanding child behaviour, regulating their own emotional responses, and applying mindful, respectful strategies that promote cooperation, connection, and healthy relationship building. This background allows him to help families transfer therapeutic insights into practical, everyday tools that bring more calm, clarity, and direction to their interactions.

Education and Experience

Trained in Peru, Jose earned his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Universidad de Lima, where he was later invited to serve as an assistant professor in Basic and Higher Cognitive Processes. His dedication to professional growth led him to become certified with the Positive Discipline Association, specializing in Adlerian Psychology. Recently, he obtained a diploma in Behavioural Sciences, enabling him to apply Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) techniques in his work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). His diverse education and hands-on experience allow him to offer a well-rounded, evidence-based approach to therapy, ensuring clients receive the highest quality care in individual, couples, and family settings.
