Real-Time Support for Real-World Challenges
Building Success Through School Observations
School can be challenging for children with attention, regulation, or behavioural needs. Our School Observation service supports your child in the classroom, where licensed Child and Youth Care Practitioners assess needs and tailor strategies to build regulation, resilience, and skills.
DEFINITION
What Are School Observations?
School Observations are conducted by licensed Child and Youth Care Practitioners who visit your child’s classroom to assess behaviour, engagement, and regulation in a natural setting. Our CYCPs use behavioural strategies and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to connect with students, gather insight, and collaborate with educators.
These sessions are ideal for students with emotional, behavioural, or attention-related challenges, and help ensure school strategies are rooted in real needs, not assumptions.
School Observations Can Help With
Understanding classroom triggers and supports
Supporting behavioural, attention, or regulation difficulties
Collaborating with school staff on practical classroom strategies
Identifying sensory or environmental barriers to success
Creating consistent supports across school and home
Offering insight for IEPs, safety plans, or behavioural support plans
Promoting student engagement and emotional well-being

School Observations are ideal for children who are struggling to thrive in their current school setting or whose challenges are more visible at school than at home. If your child is receiving services at VMA Psych, observations also help us better integrate school dynamics into their care plan.
