Get to Know Laurel Choat
Laurel Choat, RP, DTATI is a registered psychotherapist with the Canadian Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a member in good standing with the Canadian Art Therapy Association. After studying design arts at Seneca College, Laurel worked as an art instructor for eight years in the private school system before graduating from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute (TATI) with a master’s equivalent. Laurel was hired as an instructor at TATI while also a member of the Board of Directors for five years. Additionally, Laurel was a member of the Board of Directors for Therapy Through the Arts Foundation for four years.
Laurel developed and co-facilitated a CBT/Art Therapy group and an Anger Management group at The George Hull Centre for Children and Families for six years. She has been a guest speaker at Catholic Children’s Aid Society and Toronto Metropolitan University. She has also provided training at the Six Nations of the Grand River to
assist clinicians in the use of art in a therapeutic setting.
Laurel has worked at Lumenus Community Services (formerly The Etobicoke Children’s Centre) for the past eighteen years, specializing in trauma and attachment with latency-aged children before joining VMA Psych.
